Hi, I've followed your instruction a while back when i had win7. but with win10, I'm having problem with seems to me to be the drivers as fastboot device kept showing as waiting for device. however, i can see KFFOWI in device manager. I can access the tablet if it's in CM12 but not when in the adb download mode. any help would be much appreciated. thanks

i did a factory reset to my fire 7 5th gen tablet. after that i restarted the tablet and the setup process started normally. at first tab i selected my language and hit countinue. instead of next tab with wifi options, i am again at the first tab (it stuck at this first tab). i have no possibility to do here anything else than turn off or boot into recovery mode again. so i installed adb and fastboot to my pc to try to sideload the newest stock amazon firmware/update. the problem is, i am unable to connect adb with the kindle fire. i also can't enable usb debugging mode on the fire tablet, because i haven't any accsess to this option. what should i do?
buy a special factory/fastboot usb cable to force fastboot? if yes, which one? the tablet was running the newest software version and was/is rooted.
    thank you very much.

I don't expect a response as I can't get one anywhere, but if I can't get to System Updates, how else can I tell what the original firmware was so I can get the right one?

I'm pretty sure I just bricked my kids' fire because I thought I had 5.1.1 and tried to flash it with that. Any chance of recover?

  • comment-avatar

What cable are you using? I've searched eBay for a factory fastboot cable for Amazon Fire, but they seem to only identify Amazon Kindle Fire. Can the Fire and Kindle Fire use the same fastboot cable?

Also, on a separate note, I was using my Fire listening to a music playlist. When the playlist ended, the battery was at about 30%. The next time I tried to boot it up, it was completely unresponsive. Even when I plugged in the charging cable, it was still unresponsive (it wouldn't even show the low battery indicator). Is it possible that it somehow bricked, perhaps by a virus or malicious malware?

Thanks in advanced for any help or insights!
    John

And then followed the method in this video, downloaded 2nd gen HDX firmware bin file from Amazon website, sideloaded it to the device and it works perfectly now. Thanks a lot!
