If you get an error ” The Disk is Write Protected” on your SD or Micro SD Memory Card or a Hard Drive so this video will help you.
Unlock the device by using the command prompt:
Launch the Command prompt as Administrator.
Type in the command “Diskpart” and press Enter.
Type in “list disk” and press Enter.
Find the drive number corresponding to your flash drive, memory card or hard drive. When doing it, the drive size will help you. Type in “select disk” and the number of the disk that corresponds to the device and press Enter.
Type in “attributes disk clear read-only” and press Enter. This will unlock the device for writing.

Cleaning and Formatting the drive:
Type in “clean” and press Enter – it will delete all data on this drive including service information.
Type in “create partition primary” and press Enter – it creates a new partition.
Then type in “select partition 1” and press Enter.
Type in “active” and press Enter and the new partition will become active.
Then type in “format fs=fat32 quick” and press Enter – it will format the device in FAT32 format.
After that, type in “assign” and press Enter to give the flash drive a letter name.

  1. Hello, your video is the best I found on IE. I follow the instructions and I received un IO device error on the command Clean. I Think I have another problem…. Do you have any idea. Its a lexar SD card SDHC. Thanks..

  2. Followed instructions, step by step. Did not work. As soon as I prompted "clean", error message came up saying the disk was write-protected.

  3. Hello madad, i followed your steps using the command prompt and everything was fine until i tried to clean my sd card. It stated “Diskpart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. See the System Event Log for more information.” Does this mean that my sd card write protect is still activated? And if so, what can i do to remove it? Thank you in advance.
