In this second episode, we hit the road and leave Taipei for the famous forests and mountains of Alishan before heading over to Taiwan’s second largest city, Kaohsiung.

You never know what’s going to happen when you’re on the road and these few days are no exception. Just when I thought I had bought the right card for my wife, turns out it wasn’t an EasyCard at all. icash2.0 didn’t work on the bus we were taking up to Alishan and we learned the hard way. Once up in Alishan, we woke up ridiculously early for the sunrise and while it looked like it was going to happen, that ended up being a fail as well. Still, we had a great time hiking through the forest the reminded me a lot of Lord of the Rings (Entwood or Mirkwood, take your pick). When we finally made it to Kaohsiung, we were pleasantly surprised by a city that is much less hectic and crowded than Taipei. This allowed us to freely explore places like the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, and the super artsy Pier-2.

  1. Let me know what you thought about this episode!

Who's actually been to Alishan and has seen a proper sunrise? I WANT TO KNOW! Also seriously…why are there so many IC cards in Taiwan? There's got to be someone else that got confused with EasyCard, icash2.0 and iPASS.

Make sure to hit that bell to get notifications for the NEXT video when it drops 🙂

  2. Sunny hills has the BEST pineapple cakes. They supposedly only use the pineapples that ate in season away that time. They use pure pineapple, whereas Chiate, another famous pineapple cake company, mixes winter melon in it.

  3. Hi guys! I found your video super helpful (thank you!) and finally got to go to Alishan and I SAW THE SUNRISE AND CAPTURED IT!!!!

  4. Hi, great vlog, I'm about to visit Alishan by the end of November and spending 2 nights there at same hotel as you did.

I have one question, how many days did you spend in Alishan? I'm not sure if 3 days 2 nights is a lot? or should I reduce to 2 days and 1 night?

  5. Between this video and your blog post, it has been extremely helpful. Just one question. How long did you get in Fenquihu? It seems Line A bus at 1100 stops there around 1 pm and then the last bus from Fenquihu to Alishan is at 2pm. Did you get lucky? Or was everything running relatively on time? Thanks!

  6. Your article about Alishan was extremely helpful; in fact, I think it’s the only reliable and updated information.
    Thanks a lot!

  7. Hi! I love your vlog about your Taiwan trip. Im really in a dilemma. I am planning on hiring a private car with driver for either trips. Im confused whether I should do a 11hr day trip from Taipei to Wuling farm (end of november for best view of Autumn leaves) or just do the Alishan day trip (also with car and driver) from Chiayi. If I do the Alishan trip (with bento lunch and quick tour of Fenchihu)..maybe I can do it in 10hrs back and forth to my hotel in Chiayi. What do you think? Pros and cons?

  8. Loved the trailer of your taiwan vlog, love the actual vlog too 🙂 I was planning to do my 56 days in…vlog series season 2 in another place but I think I'm loving taiwan too much so it will probably become 56 days in Taiwan season 2, 3, 4… etc. Thank you for those vids, you cannot imagine the smile on my face while watching it!
