Windows command line networking: tracert

the command tracert is an advanced ping. Ping will show how long it takes for another machine to respond. Tracert will show every stop along the way. It’s very good for finding bottlenecks in your network since it reports back with times as well. Providing training videos since last Tuesday. Thanks for watching. Is there a way to initiate Tracert on a continuous loop? I have intermittent lag from to particular pc's in my network at work. Similar to a car when I initiate a command there is nothing wrong with the client but when I leave the users scan items and there is a significant amount of lag in retrieving the information. Any help would be great.

Thanks for the very clear explanation!

Thanks for the Informative video BUT you made a blunder by stating the -4 is IPv6 version 4. That is INCORRECT.
    It is FOR IPv4. And…. -6 is for IPv6.

im using PDA net+ on an android as a hotspot. does that explain why every one of the requests "times out"?

  • comment-avatar

Did you just said, IPv6 Version 4????

FYI, that is not Washington state, thats Washington DC. Even in a straight line the ping from Chicago to Washington state is not ~20ms. Its more like ~45ms.

Also, notice the previous router names in the traceroute, they are all cities. Routers are named by the closest airport/big-city, not the state in which they are in.
